The Best Taco Dip for Entertaining

taco dip

Who doesn’t love a good dip? It’s always my go-to dish to bring when I’m invited somewhere or something I quickly whip up when I’m hosting. Dips are so easy to prepare; all you need are a few ingredients and something to dip with. They tend to be the first thing to disappear! This taco dip is one of the most delicious appetizers you can serve. It’s full of flavor, super easy to make, and offers a wide variety of options and add-ons. Plus, it’s always a crowd-pleaser and has become a staple at our Super Bowl parties.

Let’s get started!

In a saucepan, cook the black beans with their liquid, adding a pinch of salt, until they begin to boil. Once they start boiling, turn off the heat and drain the liquid, keeping the black beans aside. These beans will be the first layer of your dip, so add them to your serving tray in an even layer.

In a mixing bowl, start the guacamole. Because this dip has many layers of different foods and flavors, we will keep this guacamole very simple—just diced avocado, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. The measurements will depend on how much dip you are making. Crush everything together with a fork until you get a smooth guacamole. Spread in an even layer over the beans.

Now, for the star of the show: the creamy taco dip-very simple and very delicious. This alone is perfect as a taco dip, just as is, for any gathering or get-together, especially when you’re short on time or need to quickly put something together. To start, make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature, as this will make it easier to work with.  Using a mixer (stand or hand, whatever you got), beat the cream cheese and sour cream together until the mixture is very smooth. Next, add your favorite taco seasoning and stir until it is fully incorporated. Spread into a thick layer over the quacomole.

Finally, add your toppings to the top layer. This is free rein- add whatever you like that complements the toppings for tacos, nachos, or taco salad. I typically add shredded lettuce, taco-seasoned shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, black olives, green onions, and sometimes jalapenos.

Chill in the refrigerator for a few hours (or overnight for a deeper flavor) until party time. Serve with some classic tortilla chips and enjoy!
